Balance

Great to hear that MLD offers guidance on plant and tree choices for project design. Achieving balance in design is important and symmetrical design is a simple way to achieve it. The level of balance will depend on the chosen style, whether it's modern, Mediterranean, or Southwest. MLD also considers the flow of all elements, including fountains, statues, and gardens.

It's great to hear that you are knowledgeable about the soil and zone standards in Southern California. Using quality plant nurseries and products like mulch and gravel can definitely make a difference in the health and appearance of your plants.

Harmony

Your landscape is part of the flow of your overall design. It should be in harmony with your home style, hardscapes, and lighting choices. It's important when you look at your front or back of the home, that it flows nicely, not overpowering the design. In this design, the homeowners opted  for no walls, rather long paved floating stairs. We followed the flow of the walkway & dramatic stairs with potted plants. The eye follows the hardscapes encamped with the linear lines of the pottery, and the height of the plant choice. The orange-pop of color in bloom softens the pavers/brick design. The home owners opted to remove the homes pourch and prior stars, to allow for pavers to give a streamline affect. The driveway was not replaced, however, parts if it was scored out and matching papers were placed for accent.

Artificial Turf

Many Southern California residents are opting for Artificial Turf. Low maintenance, drought friendly, pet grade options. A great amount of time is spent on the prep work in order to lay the product. There are different grades available, and some HOA require specific grades. MLD will work with you on not only what is the best grade for your needs & life style, but what is HOA/City compliant.
